Fall 2014 Biological Sciences Departmental Retreat

11-24-2014

The Department of Biological Sciences recently held its fall retreat in West Lafayette at the Beck Agricultural Center. Each cluster's convenor spoke of the faculty's research in the respective cluster and presentations were delivered from junior faculty about the research taking place in their own labs.

Before lunch Karthik Padamanhan represented the Biology Graduate Student Council and spoke to the group about the future of the department from a graduate student's point of view. His talk was followed by presentations outlining the faculty's view for the future which was led into engaging discussion and feedback throughout the room.

During lunch two alumni (David Kovar, University of Chicago; Jon Snyder, Elanco-Eli Lilly) spoke about where they are today, the path that got them there and how their time at Purdue helped them prepare for their future. Both talks were followed by short question and answer sessions which seemed to be especially important to the post docs and graduates in the audience.

Overall the retreat was a great success in highlighting various research endeavors taking place in the department.
