Cynthia Stauffacher

Professor Biological Sciences

Dr. Stauffacher's research team utilizes x-ray crystallography in understanding molecular mechanisms in particular how molecules inside the cell : 1) make building blocks that lead to cholesterol, 2) get the "message" that instructs the cell to metastatic or spread cancer cells and 3) how molecules within the cell interact to send a message that prevents the cancer from spreading. Additional Cynthia's research team is working on designing drugs to manipulate these molecules to lower cholesterol and treat breast and prostate cancers.
