Content:Cryo-electron microscopy (Cryo-EM) is a revolutionary structural bio logy method that allows the determination of the atomic structures of viruses and protein complexes to elucidate the structural basis of their functions. The atomic structures will deepen the understanding of biological processes such as metabolism, signaling, cell cycles, etc., and help the development of vaccines and drugs to combat viral infections, cancers, neurodegenerative diseases, etc. The Bio595 Cryo-EM 3D Reconstruction course will introduce cryo-EM principles, including instruments, sample preparation, data collection, and data analysis. The students will also learn how to determine a protein complex or virus structure to 2-3 Angstrom resolutions using a GPU-accelerated Linux workstation or cluster. |
