The Masters of Science programs are offered only to domestic applicants. This department offers two thesis M.S. programs in the following specific areas only: microbiology and ecology. A total of 30 credit hours are required (a minimum of 21 course credit hours and a maximum of 9 BIOL 698 thesis research credit hours). The specific courses taken are arranged on an individual basis for each student (EPOS – electronic plan of study) by the student’s Advisory Committee. Students are expected to maintain a “B” average in all coursework and satisfactory grades in thesis research credit. Obtaining two unsatisfactory grades in BIOL 698 is grounds for dismissal from the graduate program. An acceptable thesis is required. An oral defense of the thesis is also required unless waived by the Convener of the Graduate Studies Committee upon recommendation of the Advisory Committee..

The Department also offers a thesis M.S. program in General Biology. A total of 30 credit hours are required (a minimum of 21 course credit hours and a maximum of 9 BIOL 698 thesis research credit hours). At least 15 of the 21 course credit hours must be in life sciences. The specific courses taken are arranged on an individual basis for each student (EPOS – electronic plan of study) by the student’s Advisory Committee. Students are expected to maintain a “B” average in all coursework and satisfactory grades in thesis research credit.  Obtaining two unsatisfactory grades in BIOL 698 is grounds for dismissal from the graduate program.
